Please add auto-hiding applets. Mint developers do not ship power and xkb panel applets by default due to this bug. (For example you install your distro in non-english language and on notebook - you will need to add power applet and keyboard applet manually later.)
This feature may be added to xkb only: zero width if there is only one kb layout
